I LOVE doing themed newborn sessions, and this one goes very high on the list! You may think the egg is about a small chick or a duckling (which we can absolutely do if you want!) but little Isaac’s mama actually wanted an adorable dino- type shoot, and this little dinosaur hatched perfectly! I loved doing a different take on the dinosaur theme with this egg themed newborn session.

This particular shoot was extra special, because I ended up meriting for a photo from this egg themed newborn session! I’m pursuing my Master’s in Photography, and one part of that process that I chose to do was submit a few photos for merit consideration. If you merit, you get credit toward your Master’s. I fell in love with the photos from this shoot and I knew I would need to use one for my Master’s. It worked! The photo below is the one that merited, and will be featured in The Showcase Book from Professional Photographers of America!

I made the egg from paper mache and carefully shaped it to look just right! It’s just the right size for a sleeping baby dinosaur. Seriously, look at those tiny feet and fingers all curled up. This is a dino dreaming about what the world will be like once he’s hatched!

Of course, I had to include a little dinosaur toy for Isaac to snuggle during his egg themed newborn session! I usually use soft, felted figures for newborns, but I knew this little nestling was tough enough for the real thing! He clearly loved it… look at that tiny smile!

And what is a dinosaur egg themed newborn session without wrapping the baby in green like every good dinosaur? I love the contrast of colors here, and I think the green makes it instantly obvious that this little one is no chick or duckling! Although, now that I think about it… I already did a Friend’s themed newborn shoot. I should do a chick and duck shoot!
