The One With The Cake Smash

One year ago I did a Friends themed newborn shoot that went viral! That photo shoot was featured in POPSUGAR, Insider, Good Morning America, and more. Now, one year later, the babies all returned for their FIRST BIRTHDAY and a little Friends reunion! This was the perfect opportunity to do a Friends themed cake smash!

Due to the global pandemic and wanting to keep everyone as safe as possible, I did not actually have all of the babies in the studio at the same time. I photographed them separately or in small pairings (we do have twins here!) and put them together in post! But the magical cakes you’re about to see? Those are 100% real life, and not edited to look so incredible. I can’t believe how amazing they turned out! 

I don’t do anything halfway, so I decided to have a specialty cake made for each of the babies, reflecting their Friends character. But how to choose the cakes? I asked my followers over on Facebook to vote on which food they associate with each character, and the winning votes became the cake! It was a lot of fun to watch, because no one had ANY idea what they were really voting on, but they sure voted with passion! Most of these awesome cakes were made by Sugar Buzz Cakes, except the cheesecake, which was made by Death By Cheesecake!

I couldn’t just do cake smashes with these adorable one-year-olds and NOT have a mini Friends reunion! This was the perfect chance to recreate some photos from the past!

The Lobsters Together Again!

These adorable little lobsters have grown so much, and LOOK at all that personality! I can’t believe how much can change in just one year. The fact that they can sit up on this couch and laugh and smile at the camera in these amazing lobster costumes just blows my mind!

A Christmas/Hanukkah/Holiday Gathering

These little cuties were so much fun to photograph, both the first time around and this time! As newborns they were absolutely the cutest, but somehow they got even cuter a year later! They were active, to say the least, and walked all over the studio and climbed the couch!

A Bridal Hang

These sweeties stole our hearts a year ago, and they don’t plan to stop now! Just look at these little beauties in their wedding dresses! I loved seeing them smile at the camera!

A Geller Friends Reunion! – Ross

The votes were staggeringly high for which food was most associated with Ross: his Thanksgiving leftover sandwich with the moist maker! And yes, this IS a cake. And let me say… it was delicious!

You’re laughing right? Every time I see this cake I CANNOT stop laughing! Yep, that’s a cake! It was the perfect choice for Monica, so I’m glad this was what everyone voted on when I asked!

Could This Friends Reunion BE Any Cuter?! – Chandler

Yes, it’s THE cheesecake from Mama’s Little Bakery! Chandler didn’t steal this one, though! However, he DID still eat it off of the floor…

Alright, I HAD to throw in a photo of Chandler in his bubble bath! It’s such an iconic moment! Who doesn’t need a relaxing bubble bath to unwind at the end of a photo shoot?

How You Doin’? A Tribbiani Friends Reunion!- Joey

If you think those meatballs look delicious, you’re absolutely right! But those aren’t meatballs. That’s right, this is another CAKE!!! These “meatballs” were chocolate-y goodness laid over the fluffiest cake. The meatball sub was definitely the largest vote for Joey, followed closely by pizza!

3 Cheers For The Friends Reunion!!! -Rachel

Oh, the trifle. THE trifle. The one with lady fingers and beef sautéed with peas and onions! However, this cake did NOT “taste like feet.” As a matter of fact, our little Rachel (in her cheerleading uniform and Princess Leia buns) loved her cake! The trifle won the votes for Rachel almost unanimously!

Central Perk Welcomes To The Stage: The Friends Reunion!- Phoebe

“He’s her lobster!”- Phoebe Buffay/ Lisa Kudrow

This cake HAD to be a lobster! Phoebe’s sage advice on relationships will forever be quoted and followed by romantics everywhere, and her statement on lobsters holding claws is probably her most well-known!

Having these babies all return after ONE WHOLE YEAR to do this Friends Reunion was so much fun, and fell into the perfect time to prepare for the real Friends Reunion! I don’t know about you, but I am SO EXCITED to see everyone back together again! You should see the excitement on some of the fan pages!

I am clearly obsessed with the show Friends, but I also just LOVE doing themed photo shoots and getting creative! It’s so much fun doing newborn photos, family photos, and more (yes, even when they aren’t themed after my favorite show).
